Bitcoin invented the idea of digital hard money. Only so much would ever exist, and the only way to get it was to mine it or buy it. This created a powerful incentive for the Bitcoin community to drive adoption, growing from a small community on forums to a multi trillion dollar movement.
The challenge with Bitcoin has been how difficult it is to use. Transactions are slow and expensive, which has moved Bitcoin from “peer-to-peer electronic cash” to “digital gold”. Now Bitcoin acts as an inflation hedge in investment accounts. This serves a purpose, but it’s a big change from Satoshi’s original vision.
