Crypto has unlocked a new financial system. What began 16 years ago with Satoshi’s vision of a "peer-to-peer electronic cash system” has quickly become the frontier of finance. Yet one challenge has persisted: moving fiat money into crypto.
Going from fiat to crypto should be so seamless it’s an afterthought – like topping up your Starbucks app. But the experience so far has been anything but seamless. It’s more like applying for a mortgage with heavy vetting, complicated steps, that anxious moment waiting to see if the payment went through, and then a delay before the funds arrive.
As a developer, we’ve always held to the principle that everything should “just work”. We've spent the last decade putting the pieces together to deliver an experience that feels as simple as cash. The one piece that’s been a challenge is adding cash.
It’s a hard problem that many teams have been working on, and have made good progress towards, but as we continued to test options, we kept finding friction.
Earlier this year, the Coinbase team came to us with a new product they were working on: a simple “Add Cash” experience with Apple Pay. Direct from debit card to crypto in seconds. Double tap, done.
We’ve been testing the first version of this experience over the summer and so far have found it to be seamless. Seamless enough that it’s now available in the latest version of Flipcash. The first time through you’ll be required to verify your phone number and email, but after that, any time you want to add cash to Flipcash, simply tap “Add Cash”, select the amount you want to add, confirm, and the cash will be on its way.
To start, this is available to US iOS users only. The goal is to add support for Android and additional countries soon.
